Last time, we have introduced the Skylord series ESCs, now here is the new evaluation about Skyclaw series ESCs for multi-rotors.
Skyclaw series ESCs have 8 different models. According to the division of applications, there are four types including Skyclaw, Skyclaw Pro, Skyclaw Pro 3D and Skyclaw Tiny. Skyclaw 20A and 40A are designed for multi-rotors. Skyclaw Pro series ESCs are specifically applicable for professional multi-rotors with strong arm. As for Skyclaw Tiny series ESCs are particularly for racing drones. At last, Skyclaw Pro 3D ESCs are more suitable for user who prefers aerobatics flying.
Product Appearance
The four ESCs, Skyclaw 20A and 40A, Skyclaw Tiny 15A and 25A, are all small size and simple packaging, the same as Skylord series ESC (as shown last time). But Skyclaw Pro 25A and 40A, Skyclaw Pro 25A 3D and 40A 3D, all of these four ESCs are packaged in a box, as shown in the figure below.
In addition, a user manual in Chinese and English is included.
Unique Advantages In Common
- Have start-Up protection, throttle signal lost protection and over-load protection, which can extend the service life and reduce the risk of drone crash as much as possible.
- Adopt high-frequency MCU (up to 50MHz) as the main control chip, the computing speed of the ESC is faster and the response speed of the throttle is dramatically improved.
- The twisted-pair design of the throttle signal cable effectively reduces the crosstalk produced in signal transmission and makes the flight more stable.
- Using specialized power tube to driver the chip, the ESCs have high efficiency and strong reliability.
Skyclaw 20A and 40A, Skyclaw Pro
There are four ESCs with separate categories for multi-rotor and professional multi-rotors in aerial imaging.
- ESC protocols determine how fast the signals can be sent from flight controller to ESC, which will have some pretty big impact on your multi-rotors. Skyclaw 20A and 40A ESC, Skyclaw Pro, are all compatible with PPM signal-receiving mode and OneShot125 signal-receiving mode. When flight controller also supports the OneShot 125 mode, the motor output signal is much shorter(125μs to 250μs) than the original signal (1ms~2ms), in fact, OneShot 125 sets the motor output timer speed 8 times faster. When choose the PPM signal-receiving mode, the frequency of the throttle signal supported by the ESCs is up to 500Hz and compatible with various flight controllers.
- Skyclaw 20A and 40A, Skyclaw Pro, all can be programmed by transmitter. The difference is that the Skyclaw 20A and 40A have one programmable item (Timing) on PPM signal-receiving mode, but Skyclaw Pro supports programmable item named synchronous rectifier. With the synchronous rectifier ON, the ESC can get better throttle linearity. Highly intelligent and adaptive default settings like auto-adjusting timing for ease of operation.
Skyclaw Tiny
15A and 25A in this series are applicable for racing drones.
- Different from other ESCs for multi-rotors, Tiny series ESCs have small size in order to save weight as much as possible.
- Highly intelligent and adaptive default settings like auto-adjusting timing for ease of operation.
- There are more ESC protocols supported by the Skyclaw Tiny. Besides the original PWM (1000µs-2000µs) and OneShot 125 (125-250µs) mentioned above, Tiny series ESCs also support OneShot 42 (42-84µs) and MultiShot (2-25µs), which give the multi-rotors better performance.
- Instead of using software PWM, hardware PWM and matching software algorithms can make noise-reduction and cooling effect, which make the motors run more silently and efficiently.

Skyclaw Pro 3D
- Two types of ESCs named Skyclaw Pro 25A 3D and Skyclaw Pro 40A 3D, are designed for user who have a passion for aerobatics flying. With a corresponding 3D flight controller, the ESC can rapidly switch the motor rotation, in order to achieve forward and reverse 3D flight function. - Highly intelligent and adaptive default settings like auto-adjusting timing meet almost all applications, no need to set any parameters and calibrate the throttle range, it is quite easy to use. Here is the small video to directly show the 3D function about Skyclaw Pro 40A 3D ESC.
The following notes need to be noticed
Continuous Current:It is the maximum constant current which the ESC can work on. Larger constant current will cause the ESC overheat and burn out. For example, for a TC-M-5010-KV430 Tomcat motor, the maximum current of which is 26A, you should choose an ESC with a continuous current greater than 26A, it is better to choose the Skyclaw-40A ESC. In addition, the fact is there will be no power gain to your motor when using ESC with too many amps. In fact, using 40A ESC doesn’t mean your aircraft is flying faster than using 20A ESC, instead your aircraft will be heavier.
Burst Current: might allow a higher current to pass through for a short period of time such as 10 seconds. Over this time, the ESC will burn out.
For the better performance of multi-rotors, user needs to choose the ESCs in same specification.
